The Duke of Ding was half a beat slower to react to what Song Si was talking about and looked at him incredulously.
Song Si said, “We only found out about it yesterday.”
“What is going on?”
Song Si told what had happened yesterday, and Duke Ding only found it unbelievable that Xu Qingwan had strayed to Qingping County after losing her memory, and had become Song Si’s eldest aunt, ordering his subordinates, “Quickly, go and get Madam.”
The Duke of Ding’s wife quickly came over and was shocked after hearing the story.
Xu Qingwan had actually lost her memory back then, was it premeditated or an accident?
“This matter is currently known only to Yue’er and I, Gu Yi and the old man, and we don’t want to let Eldest Aunt return to the Xu Mansion for now.”
Duke Ding’s wife and Duke Ding looked at each other, finding Xu Qingwan was such a big deal, the old man actually didn’t want the family to know, there must be some reason for this, “Do you have someone you suspect?”
Song Si didn’t hide and told them about her suspicions of Huo’s family, the Duke of Ding and his wife were even more shocked.
If that was really the case, the day the truth was revealed, the Xu family might have to be in great disarray.
The two men looked at each other again, and the Duke of Ding asked, “Do you need our help?”
The Song family had no roots in the capital, and it was simply impossible to investigate what had been going on for over ten years, and if Xiao’er intervened, it might lead to other troubles.
Song Si wasn’t polite and rose to give a big salute, “Then I’ll trouble grandfather.”
……
It was after the hour that Song Wangyue and Gu Yi went to the Xu residence.
I don’t know if it was Song Wan Yue’s treatment that helped, or if it was because her face resembled that of the young lady, but the lady was now eating on time every day, and she no longer refused to drink the tonic soup, and her face was looking red.
When she saw the carriage coming, Sister Wu quickly greeted her and opened the curtain herself, “Miss Song, if you don’t come, I will have to go to your home to pick you up.”
The previous days, Song Wangyue had arrived at midnight, but today she was half an hour late.
Song Wangyue smiled and got off the carriage, “There’s something going on at home, so I’m sorry to keep you waiting, Sister Wu.”
“Is it settled? Do you need any help?”
Sister Wu asked eagerly, Miss Song had been so gratuitously kind to Madam, and they wanted to return some of that.
“It’s just a small matter, how is the First Lady today?”
“I had a bowl of porridge and a flower roll in the morning, and I also ate quite a lot of dishes, which were made lightly as you ordered.”
Song Wan Yue nodded and followed her inside, before she reached the entrance to the small courtyard, she saw Huo leading her maid in from afar.
Song Wan Yue’s eyes narrowed.
“Miss Song, I’ll go over first.”
Sister Wu’s voice was tinged with panic as she finished speaking and trotted back.
Huo was just walking to the door when Sister Wu was busy making a noise to stop her, “Please stay!”
Huo stopped and looked back at her.
Sister Wu walked quickly to the doorway and blocked her, “I wonder what you want?”
She had never addressed Huo, and Huo didn’t care, speaking gently, “I’ve come to see my sister.”
She had been here before, and when she came she just shushed and asked, not saying a word else.
But every time she left, Madam would fall ill, so Sister Wu did her best to stop her every time.
“Our madam is not yet well, so you should please go back.”
Huo hadn’t slept well all night last night and always felt uneasy in her heart. She wanted to visit Meng to find out what was going on, so how could she leave so easily?
“Sister has been ill for so many days, Sister Wu, let me go in and have a look, I’ll be relieved to see that sister is fine.”
She was the ordinary wife, somewhat inferior to the First Lady in status, but still the master of the house, and by rights she could take out a tough attitude in the face of Sister Wu. But in all the years she had been in the house, she had never made a face at the subordinates on this side of the house, and she spoke in a kind and gentle manner.
“She has said that the First Lady is not yet well, are you unable to understand?”
Song Wangyue took in their words and asked slowly as she walked inside.
Huo turned around again, her brows slightly knitted, “I’m talking to Sister Wu, it’s not the turn of an outsider to interrupt!”
“Oh?”
Song Wangyue had already walked up to her, tilting her head to look at her, obviously much shorter than her, but not losing her in aura at all.
“I’m an outsider, what are you?”
Huo’s face turned pale with anger. She naturally knew how people in the capital had talked about her over the years, but they had all talked behind her back, none of them had dared to say so in front of her yet.
“Unbridled, this is the Xu family, not a place for you to spill your guts.”
Song Wangyue did not take her anger into account in the slightest, “This is the First Lady’s courtyard, not a place for you to spill your guts either.”
If the First Lady had not missed her daughter all these years and ignored the affairs of the house, Huo would have had to look at the First Lady’s face, not to mention her authority over the house, even for food and supplies.
“Yue’er, come in.”
The First Lady’s voice came out from inside the house, not mentioning Huo’s half-word in her words.
Huo’s face turned blue and purple, very wonderful.
Song Wangyue didn’t even look at her and walked straight past her and into the house.
Huo’s lips moved, but in the end she held her anger back and raised her voice, “Since sister is not feeling well, I won’t bother you.”
There was no echo from inside the house.
Huo turned her head and led the maid away.
Looking at her wretched figure, Sister Wu felt pained for the first time in ten years, turned and smiled as she lifted the curtain and went in, diligently pouring water for Song Wangyue and bringing her many tasty treats.
“Sister, don’t be busy, it’s a nice day, let’s not give Madam a needle first, let’s take her out for a walk.”
“This ……”
Sister Wu looked to Meng, never mind out of the house, even this small courtyard madam hadn’t been out for ten years.
Meng froze for a moment, her heart subconsciously rejecting, “I ……”
“Madam don’t be too busy to reject it first, I have prepared a surprise for you, keep it for you, after you see it, you won’t be sick of anything.”
Sister Wu naturally liked the idea of Meng being able to walk out and helped to persuade, “Madam, you can’t brush off Miss Song’s good intentions.”
Meng clearly resisted, “Still, I’d rather not go, it’s good to stay inside.”
“Don’t regret not going, Madam, I took the red coral headdress you gave me back yesterday and someone looked at it and she said she had seen it before.”
Meng instantly grabbed her hand, her hands were shaking with excitement, her father had had it sent to her on a fast track after the headdress had been made, no one else had seen it yet except her and Wan’er.
Sister Wu also froze.
“Madam is going?”
Song Wangyue asked with a smile.
“Go, go.”
Meng responded excitedly, “Sister, quick, freshen me up.”
Sister Wu was also shaking, she couldn’t even hold the comb steadily and dropped it several times, she managed to freshen up Meng and found clothes to help her put them on, telling them to wait for a while, she hurriedly went back inside her house, changed into a set of clothes and quickly freshened up too, quickly turning back and helping Meng out.
The two young maids tried to follow, but she stopped them.
