On the desktop, the words “King of Diligence” are very clear.
Xiao Zheng’s body was tense, he didn’t know why Gu Yi would reveal his martial arts skills in front of Shen Yan.
“What does Prince Shen mean?”
Taking his obvious defensiveness in his eyes, Shen Yan smoothed out the writing on the table as if he had forgotten that he had just dipped his fingers in it and lifted his glass of wine and drained it in one go.
The wine glass was held in his hand, “Brother Xiao need not be defensive with me, I am not interested in the power struggle in the capital, I just want to know if he is or is not?”
Xiao Zheng dared not let his guard down and ran his words through his head several times before speaking slowly, “Yes or no, it should have nothing to do with Shen Shizi.”
“With the Duke, there is indeed none.” He was stationed at the border, no matter who became the emperor, it would be the same for him, “But in terms of private, there is!”
Xiao Zheng washed his ears.
“Back then, if King Qin hadn’t had a sudden accident, I wouldn’t have been unable to rush back for the marriage, Wan’er wouldn’t have disappeared, and I wouldn’t have had so many years of suffering.”
Although this reason was plausible, Xiao Zheng did not dare to take it lightly, in order to help vindicate King Qin and to help his sister get justice, their Xiao family had been holding back for more than ten years, and they must not expose Xiao’er just because of a few words from Shen Yan.
“I’ve seen Gu Yi a few times, he’s completely a child, I didn’t expect him to be able to fight against Shen Shi Zi, as for whether he’s the one, I can tell you with certainty, absolutely not! If he is, he and the Xu family came to our Ding Guo Mansion several times, there’s no way we wouldn’t recognise him, not to mention that he’s been to the Golden Palace and met with His Majesty. Half of the officials have seen him too, there’s no way they can’t recognise him.”
Shen Yan turned his wine glass and looked at him, his compelling aura pressing Xiao Zheng’s breath hard.
And Xiao Zheng tried desperately to maintain his voice sounding natural.
Shen Yan smiled faintly, put the wine glass on the table, got up and left.
The moment the door closed, Xiao Zheng was like a drowning man being rescued to shore, his mouth opened wide and he breathed heavily.
……
“No matter what Wen Zhong is trying to test, from today onwards, you two are not allowed to leave the house again.”
Xu Yan commanded sternly.
Wan’er only had one daughter, Yue’er, and if something happened to her, he couldn’t even imagine what would happen to her.
“Your uncle is right.”
Xu’s heart palpitated at the thought of them being besieged by so many people, “This matter has me and your uncle, you guys should leave it alone.”
Knowing that they were concerned, Song Wan Yue nodded her head obediently, “Got it.”
Gu Yi looked at her just in time to see the look in her eyes and instantly nodded along with her good naturedly, “I know too.”
Seeing how obedient the two were, Xu said nothing else and went with Song Lin to Meng’s side.
Song Wan Yue remembered something, “Uncle, how long after my mother disappeared did Huo enter the house?”
“About half a month or so.”
Half a month?
Song Wangyue narrowed her eyes.
“What are you asking this for, did you find something?”
“No, it’s just that I thought about it with Uncle Shen on the way back today and casually asked.
Xu Yan did not doubt it.
Song Wangyue looked at Gu Yi, who nodded slightly.
Until late afternoon, the two of them were in the old gentleman’s house, talking and playing chess with him.
Soon after dinner, when they saw that the old gentleman was getting tired, they served him to lie down before they went back to their respective courtyards.
At the end of the eleventh hour, all was silent and all the people of the Xu House fell into a deep sleep.
When Song Wan Yue came out from the open door, Gu Yi was already waiting in the courtyard.
The two of them soon went out of the back door of the Xu Mansion, where several servants were waiting.
“Go to the old Wen family residence.”
It was now curfewed and they couldn’t go by carriage, so Gu Yi grabbed Song Wan Yue’s hand and whispered, “If you can’t keep up, just tell me.”
Song Wan Yue nodded her head.
After coming to the capital, she hadn’t stopped practising her internal energy and wanted to try how effective it was.
“Go.”
Gu Yi pulled her ahead and swept out sharply, with Xiao Si and a few other servants immediately following.
In the night, several people hurried through the streets like ghosts.
Seeing that they were about to reach the old Wen family residence, Song Wan Yue let out a faint gasp.
Gu Yi instantly stopped and crouched down, Song Wan Yue did not hesitate to lie on her back, Gu Yi got up and swept along in a hurry.
He soon arrived in front of the Wen family’s old mansion.
Gu Yi leapt directly onto the wall with her on his back and held his breath, listening to the movements in the courtyard.
After Wen and Xu Ling’er were picked up and the underlings followed, the mansion was empty at the moment.
Gu Yi jumped off the wall and placed Song Wan Yue on the ground.
Xiao Si and a few other servants fell behind the two silently.
“Go to the backyard.”
The crowd arrived at the backyard.
The backyard was where miscellaneous things were piled up and there was a well. The pale moonlight shone down, illuminating only half of the yard, the other half being covered by the shadows of the trees.
Song Wangyue walked straight towards some large trees and circled around them a few times.
If her guess was correct, the four people who had been killed back then should have been buried in this backyard, under these trees to be exact. This was the only way to dispose of the bodies without being discovered and without arousing suspicion.
Gu Yi turned his gaze with her and saw her stop by a very large tree that was flourishing, waved his hand and several of the boys took out their tools and went over.
Song Wangyue stepped back and watched as the boys moved quickly and without making a lot of noise to dig into the ground.
The moonlight stretched her and Gu Yi’s shadows.
“Ka ……”
One of the boys said as the shovel touched something and he immediately paused and looked up.
Xiao Si stepped forward and crouched down to gently pull the top of the shovel away with his hands, and a piece of white bone appeared in front of several people.
Song Wangyue let out a long breath, walked over and squatted her body, used her hands to feel a few more white bones and got up, “Bury it.”
The dug pit was quickly filled in.
The crowd took advantage of the night to leave the Wen family’s old mansion and went back to the Xu residence as quietly as they had come, as if nothing had happened, each going back to their own courtyard.
The following day, at breakfast, Song Wan Yue said that
“Uncle, the night before last was thanks to Uncle Shen’s help, I want to send him some cakes to show my appreciation, if Uncle is okay, I want you to accompany me.”
“You should.”
Before Xu Yan could say anything, the old man nodded and said to him, “It’s time to thank Yan’er properly, and ask your mother to prepare some additional gifts in addition to the pastries.”
“Sun’er understands.”
After eating, Xu Yan went to speak to Meng, who personally prepared the gifts, Xu Yan had them put on the carriage, and went to the South City with Song Wan Yue, picked up some freshly baked pastries, and came to the Duke of Zhen’s residence.
Shen Yan had been in his study since he returned yesterday, and when he heard the report, he personally went out to greet him, and when he saw the gift, he looked at Xu Yan.
“Grandfather had it sent here.”
Shen Yan let his underlings carry them in and carried them inside.
Song Wan Yue whispered, “Uncle Shen, I have something important to say to you and uncle.”
Shen Yan led them to the study.
