Having said that, he then reminded, “The entire text of the Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra is only two hundred and sixty characters, so it is not difficult to write.”
Naiko Ito busily asked, “Then may I ask, can you lend me a pen and paper here? Also, I wonder if Venerable Master Jing Qing could wait for me for a little while until I finish writing it?”
The monk laughed, “The poor monk can lend you a pen and paper, and you can bring it directly to meet Venerable Master Jing Qing, copying the scriptures in front of him, while he chants, blesses, and opens the light for you at the same time, for the best effect.”
Ito Nayoko said excitedly, “That’s really thankful to you!”
Saying that, she once again bowed deeply.
The monk said Amitabha Buddha, and then turned around and went into the Dharma Circulation Office, and in a short time, he took a yellow brocade bag, as well as paper, pen, ink, and water, and was out of the door of the Dharma Circulation Office, and he carefully turned back to close the door, and only then did he take Nayoko Ito to the backyard of the temple.
Afterwards, he said to Nanako, “Please follow me, O Scholar.”
Nayako nodded her head in a hurry and followed him towards the back of the temple.
Through a mottled red brick wall was the temple’s backyard, which was hardly ever open to the public on weekdays, and apart from the monks within the temple, only residents with deep ties to the temple were allowed to enter.
Here, there is a special Buddhist hall for the monks to teach the Dharma. Some of the monks who are pious enough and gifted enough are trained here, and they will go to the mountain regularly to learn the Dharma, and when their destiny is fulfilled, they will be formally shaved and become a monk.
At this moment, Venerable Jing Qing was sitting in front of the scripture platform in the Buddha Hall, reciting scriptures with his eyes closed.
The young monk pushed open the door of the Buddha Hall and respectfully said, “Venerable Jing Qing, there is a female monk seeking an audience.”
Venerable Jing Qing opened his eyes and nodded, “Bring her in!”
The young monk respectfully nodded slightly, “Disciple obeys!”
After saying that, he turned around and went out, making way for the doorway, and said to Ito Nanako, “Shi master, Venerable Jing Qing has an invitation.”
Ito Nanako once again folded her hands in thanks before she stepped into the Buddha Hall with an excited and apprehensive heart.
At the first sight of Ito Nayoko, Venerable Jing Qing couldn’t help but sigh in his heart, “This girl is really as the lady said, has the wisdom root of enlightenment, even more so than I had back then, some people are just like this, at a glance, they have the talent of heaven!”
Feeling that others have wisdom roots is a kind of unique intuition that people who are enlightened have for similar juniors.
It was just like in martial arts novels, when a top master sees a top-talented child, he can tell at a glance that the other person has excellent roots, whereas in the eyes of those who don’t know better, they just feel mediocre.
With this thought, he immediately stood up and said to Ito Nanako, “Amitabha Buddha, the monk has come to see the poor monk, I wonder what is the purpose of this?”
Ito Nayoko bowed deeply and said respectfully, “Disciple Ito Nayoko, from Kyoto, Japan, my mother was a strong believer in Buddhism during her lifetime, disciple was influenced by her, and is also a believer in Buddhism, today I happened to hear that Venerable Master Jing Qing came to Jinling, so I took the liberty of asking for a meeting, and would like to implore the Master to open up and enchant a protective amulet for disciple, which I would like to give to the person who is dear to disciple’s heart. ”
“The person of the heart …… ” Venerable Master Jing Qing suddenly stifled his wrists a little, hesitated for a moment, and spoke, “The Donor has all things in his eyes, and his body has a haze of light, and is the person with the deepest Buddhist destiny that poor monks have ever seen in their lives; if the Donor were to convert to Buddhism, and devote himself to the study of the Buddhism, it will be the fortune of all living beings, I wonder if you have any thoughts of converting to Buddhism?”
