Hearing that Nai Nai Zi wanted to try again, Venerable Jing Qing didn’t think too much about it, and while nodding his head in agreement, he spoke, “If you wish to enter the Unconscious Realm without any problems, abandoning the seven emotions and six desires is the most prudent way to do so.”
Nai Zi was silent for a moment and muttered, “After cutting off the seven emotions and six desires, what’s the point of living?”
Venerable Jing Qing said without thinking, “Only by cutting off the seven passions and six desires can one have a chance to become a Buddha, and can one be better at spreading enlightenment to all sentient beings.”
Nai Zi shook her head and said seriously, “With all due respect, isn’t being bent on seeking the Buddha one of the seven passions and six desires? Isn’t being bent on universalising all sentient beings also one of the seven passions and six desires? It is naturally true that all beings should be ferried, but not everyone is dissatisfied with their present situation; if he is happy and contented, what need is there for others to ferry him?”
Saying this, Nanako added, “Moreover, since I have my own family and sweetheart, I cannot do away with them from my mind; even if I could put them all behind me, since I have my heart set on enlightenment, the pursuit of enlightenment is another of my desires, the moment I entered the Sea of Consciousness and leapt down, it was for the sake of enlightenment, but then I have to deceive myself, or the Sea of Consciousness, that I obviously came here for it, but I want it to think that I have no desires, isn’t that the same as deceiving it?”
Venerable Jing Qing was slightly stunned, then sighed softly, “What the Scholar said …… is not unreasonable ……”
After saying that, he asked her again, “Then how does the Shi Master intend to try this time?”
Caizi shook her head, “I don’t know, I just want to try again, no matter whether it succeeds or fails, I won’t bother Master anymore today.”
Venerable Master Jing Qing said, “The poor monk has plenty of time, there is no need for the cultivator to be in a hurry.”
Nai Nai Zi nodded gratefully, and then she closed her eyes, once again using the method of internal peeping, allowing her divine sense to come to the sea of consciousness.
As before, Nai Zi was still trying her best to push her divine sense higher this time, only, that attempt just now had been very taxing on her energy, and this time, pushing higher was obviously much more strenuous.
However, despite the strain, Nai Nanako was still trying her best to make this attempt.
It was also during this process that she finally understood why Venerable Jing Qing needed eight years to achieve enlightenment, always desperately making the divine sense go higher like this was a great exertion of energy and stamina, and after trying it twice herself, she still didn’t know how long it would take to slow down before she could soothe this mental exhaustion away.
Plus, enlightenment was meant to be thousands of constant attempts, and a few years for enlightenment was already considered very short in the long journey of cultivation.
Nayoko went all out to push her Divine Consciousness as high as her own state could reach, and when she realised that all of her energy had been exhausted, she instantly and completely relaxed, allowing her Divine Consciousness to fall freely from the heights.
During this descent, all kinds of thoughts were still frantically impacting her consciousness, the same as last time, all of them were her parents, her relatives, and Ye Chen, who she had been thinking about day and night.
Nanako finally realised that the reason why she suddenly had so many thoughts pouring in at this time must be because of this sense of falling in free fall, which gave one a sense of near death.
And this feeling of near death would naturally make one think of many people and things.
